This has to be one of the best ever episodes.
I would love to see him play his ancestor in a movie.
The story has everything, royalty, war, political intrigue, court room drama, romantic betrayal, prison break. stunning locations.

On a historical note in 1691 the area near Shropshire was very Catholic including local major landowners of the Gifford family. This is the opposite of the strong Protestant history of the family. Maybe they were there to quell this???

By far the most interesting and enjoyable of the current series.

An absolutely magical story, which grabbed you from the word go. it was only one side of Sir Derek's family and I can't imagine what other lines would reveal.

Loved the episode. Derek Jacobi was marvellous, his family story was just fascinating and the experts were great too. The remaining episodes will have to work hard to top this one.

Now that was a good show - but they needed more time to do the rest of the family.

Quite a few of my friends & I want to know what happened for them to end up in poverty so quickly .

I think they could do a Derek Jacobi part 2 on this next series - wonder how many people would agree with me

I hope the rest are like that and not like the first one in this series

Couldn't agree more - I was so incensed by what I saw as an unfinished story I posted a complaint on the BBC website - await a response.
