Fireman - during the Blitz

Postby keithn » Fri Apr 17, 2009 6:33 am

My grandfather, Fred Charters (1909-1979), was a fireman based in north London and was obviously very busy in 1940 during the Blitz. My mother recalls him being away for days at a time around London.

Being a professional fireman his was a reserved occupation and I imagine he would have trained and worked closely with part-time and volunteer firemen.

I am curious to know if there are any records of fire fighters during the war and of their activities.

Any advice appreciated.
