Domestic Servants

Postby Kathy » Fri Jan 02, 2009 6:30 pm

I am interested in researching the likely experiences of the females in my family who entered domestic service after leaving school. They are very difficult to find on the census once they leave home, and without oral history information remain forgotten.
Does anyone have any information about this massive group of women whose work remains almost hidden from the prying eyes of the local historian.

Kathy,
Many of my female ancestors were also in domestic service, undertaking various roles.
Paul Beryl has submitted some information under the Working Life forum on this website which you may find useful.
I am about to post a reply to his message which will help you find his post more easily.
I hope this is useful,
Katherine
