Web chat guidelines (30 April 2014)

Postby Jon Bauckham » Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:50 am

Our live web chats are a fantastic opportunity for you to put your burning questions to some of the leading experts in genealogy. Whether you’ve hit a stumbling block or want to know more about our guests’ own research, this is your chance to field that one question that you’ve always wanted to ask.

With that in mind, we want to make sure the web chats are as rewarding for everyone as possible, so we’ve written up a few short guidelines that we’d ask all involved to follow...

1
Our guests are not paid for the web chats and will usually be available for an hour to answer your queries. Unfortunately this means they probably won’t have time to answer queries that will require specific research, but they will be able to give you a wealth of helpful pointers and advice.

2
Please try to keep your questions brief and include all necessary details so that the guest can help you as much as possible. Please also remember to be polite and stick to the community spirit of the WDYTYA? Magazine Forum.

3
By all means post more than one question, but to give everyone a fair chance the guest will try to answer your first question, answering subsequent questions when they are able to. So make sure to ask your most pressing question first!

4
Don’t worry about waiting until the web chat begins – you can start posting your questions as soon as the thread is open and the guest will still see them.
I've now left Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine. Please contact wdytyaeditorial@immediate.co.uk regarding any forum queries.
