My ggg grandfer James Nottage born 1796 was a silversmith by trade and I would like to find out where he did his apprenticeship and how he fared in his occupation. Is there a record of silversmiths anywhere? on 1841 census he was living in Banks Court Finsbury can anyone give me clue where to start?
many thanks Annie

You could try The Goldsmiths' Company who had (have) a responsibility for both goldsmiths and silversmiths. If they cannot help themselves they may be able to point you in the right direction.
