How do I upload an image?

Postby silmaf » Fri Aug 31, 2012 9:44 am

Hi
I tried to upload first a jpg and then a word document but neither attached to my post. Can someone let me know firstly which kind of attachments can be uploaded, secondly what the maximum file size is, and lastly the steps to upload an image?
Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your query. Only images can be uploaded to the forum - if you attempt to attach a Word .doc or .docx file then it should come up with an error message.

If you do want to share a file such as a Word document, then the only thing I would suggest is uploading it to a separate online storage site and copying the URL into the post.

Images should be fine, though. Once you have chosen a file using the upload attachment box below, make sure you also click the add the file button. By also clicking on place inline, the image can appear within the text of the post - just copy and paste the code it generates into the appropriate location.

Generally speaking, the smaller the image (and thus the file size), the better. Otherwise, the photographs come out huge, which means that you have to scroll vertically and horizontally across the browser window just to see it!

Below is a good example - you will see that the file is only 24.64 kb:

In the meantime, I'll just get in contact with our digital department and ask them what the maximum file size is.

Best,
Jon

Thanks Jon
I converted it into a jpg and somehow managed to shrink it - and finally it uploaded. Your instructions were very useful. Instead of a variety of reject messages, I finally saw the place inline option. I can see though that I'm going to have to find out how to crop Jpgs. The image is now on my mystery woman post.

Glad I was able to help :)

If you want to resize and crop images, there are a few free websites that will allow you to do it online. For example:

http://www.picresize.com
http://www.cutmypic.com

Let me know if you have any other problems.

Best,
Jon

I have just tried to attach a jpeg of a photo, but was told that I could attach the attachment, but no real reason given.
As this is a section for help with photos, and I need help with a photo, I thought that I would have been ok.

My request for help with a photo is my first post - so it may be that my message needs approval for posting before it appears.
Any clues?
