Who would be your ideal WDYTYA? celebrity?

Postby Matt Elton » Thu Jul 14, 2011 11:28 am

Many of you have told us who you'd love to see featured in future series of WDYTYA? on our forum. Yesterday we turned the tables on the programme makers to ask them who their fantasy WDYTYA? subjects would be, with some very surprising answers!

You'll be able to find out more in our September issue, but we also want to know what famous figure – alive, dead or fictional – you'd most like to see on the show. We'll try to print some of your suggestions in the magazine...

Mine would be my 4x great grandfather John Wylde, born in 1762 because I'm finding it impossible to trace back further! His wife's family would be of sufficient interest to the programme as her grandfather was Joseph Sabine, governor of Gibraltar, MP for Berwick upon Tweed and Governor of Berwick and Holy Island. As a soldier he commanded his regiments in the Nine Years' War and the War of Spanish Succession, including Battles of Blenheim and Oudenarde.

My ideal WDYTYA celebrities:

Dead: Virginia Woolf, Oscar Wilde

Alive: Dame Judi Dench, Liam Neeson

Fictional: Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (I suspect he's hiding a questionable pedigree.)

Good question. Thanks for posing it.

Our deputy editor Claire has just posted a new blog exploring some of the Who Do You Think You Are? footage that never makes it to our screens. You can see some of these scenes exclusively on our website – do you have any particular favourites? I'm a big fan of David Mitchell's deadpan approach to family history...

I would love to see Arthur Towle - better know as Arthur Lucan - and MUCH better known as
"Old Mother Riley" To see his family would be wonderful and to meet-up with his fellow actors would be such a joy. God bless you Arthur, long may you live in our memories.

Just to name a few:

Dame Edna,
Shirley Bassey,
Tom Jones,
Sean Connery,
Rod Stewart

People with personalities of their own always seem to make interesting subjects with their family history.

Love the show.
