Abraham Ralphs...

Postby zippy1 » Sat Apr 12, 2008 8:10 pm

Hello
I'm a little bit stuck!!! I have an Abraham Ralphs (b.1802, Cathedral, Manchester). He married Catherine ?? (b. abt 1804, Newport, Salop). I can't seem to find their marriage. I have them in the 1841 Census as living in Bilston, Wolverhampton, Staffs - possibly Back/Birch Lane (spelling unclear). I also have them in the 1851 census and in the 1861 census they are married but in different houses on the night the census was taken. Abraham's occupation is a blacksmith. They had 6 children, Elizabeth b.1835, Nancy b.1836, Emma b.1840, John b.1842, Joseph b.1845 and James 1847. I would also like to know when/where Abraham and Catherine died and Catherine's maiden name.
Any help anyone can give would be gratefully appreciated... thanks for your time...

Have you tried getting the birth certificates of either Emma, John, Joseph or James to give you Catherine's maiden name? The census records may give you a hint of which district they were born in, and you can put a check on the forms to make sure that the father is Abraham before the certificate is issued, saving some money if there are duplicate possibilities.

Hi,

Thanks ever so much for replying. I think the birth certificate of one of the children is the way to go.
Cheers

Hi Rachel, you're welcome. I would love to know how you get on, and hope it goes well. Did you know that your Abraham ( if I have the correct one-parents John & Ann Ralphs) seems to have had a sister called Sarah who was also christened in Manchester Cathedral?

Hi mrsaverage40s,

Yes thanks, I have actually got that Abraham's parents were John and Ann and that his sister was Sarah. I got that info off the IGI. So, if I've also got the right Abraham then that's a few more branches to add. As soon as I find out Catherine's maiden name or where/when/if they married I'll let you know.
