Carrier of Military Baggage

Hello,

I was looking through the Oxfordshire Quarter Sessions this evening for some more in-depth information about my ancestors. I found that one line in particular were listed as carriers of military baggage one when he was in his 60s the other in his 30s when they were going from Thame, where they lived to Aylesbury and Buckingham. I looked up carriers of military baggage in the 1700s for more information on what they did ...

Canterbury Wills

MoVidger very kindly found a will on Ancestry that is near impossible to read so I'm wondering if there is any chance of a better copy elsewhere? The original was proved by The Prerogative Court of Canterbury. The few lines that refer to my ancestor suggests she is bequeathed £20 but I can make out the Court of Chancery in the very next line so I'd like to work out what that's all about. Her ...

The last Census?

It seems that the Chief Statistician believes that next year's Census could be the last, let's hope so, at a cost of £906 million!.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51468919
For decades statisticians have claimed there was no need for a census as information could be gathered elsewhere. The only reason I can see is for "Big Brother" reasons. It would be nice if the BBC could "fact-check" their own material ( ...

Edward Harris c1790

I'm trying to trace the birth of Edward Harris possibly in Warwickshire.
This is what I know:
from his burial on 6 Dec 1852 age 64 in Ashow, Warwickshire he could have been b in 1788
*the 1841 census gives his age as 50, which I know could have been rounded up or down by 5 years by the enumerator but I think the census indicates that Edward was born 'outside the county' c1791
*the ...

Which one?

Richard Webb - 1851 census says born Rochford Herefordshire but lives in Worcestershire. I can find a baptism for him in both Rochford, Worcestershire and Eastham, Worcestershire (where he lives after marriage) in the same year 1789. I don't know anything about this part of the country but the two parishes look side-by-side with the county border very nearby? Could Rochford have been Herefordshire at one time?

Parents, as recorded on the baptisms, are either ...
