House names to house numbers

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to find out the modern address for a house that only had a name in 1907?

I am trying to find the house number for Tintara (formerly Lintard), Heatherside Road, Ewell, Surrey. I've tried Google and Google Maps but cannot find what number it is in 2019.

My Edwardian house was formally known as Trefern (and can be found in local paper searchers under that name) ...

Tracing a mistress and illegitimate child

My great-aunt has told me that her father, Henry Charles Victor Bicknell, had an affair in the early 1920s in Brighton that produced a daughter around the same time that she was born in 1924. She told me that her father ended up having to pay £5 a month child support for his illegitimate child. Henry and his wife Gertrude Dorothy were living at 52 Chester Terrace Preston (now in Brighton).

I was wondering if ...

Kew lookup request (24th regiment c1785)

If anyone is heading to Kew this summer, I would be extremely grateful for lookup assistance please.

In 2017, Adrian kindly offered suggestions with my soldier ancestor brickwall, with a trip to Kew being my only recourse. Unfortunately, I'm not geographically able to travel to Kew this year.

I need a search for my John Worrel in the following General Muster Books and Pay Lists:

24th Foot 1st Battalion - WO 12/4059 (1760-1782)
24th Foot ...

Who are these Canadian visitors?

This is a complete shot in the dark, but the young man in the centre of this photo visited my family for my great grandma's 80th birthday in Middleton, Manchester in 1957. I think great grandma's brother (Herbert Woodward, b 1874) may have emigrated to Canada in 1891 so it is possible this is a descendent of his. I just thought it was worth posting on the off-chance that someone might recognise these people.

Here's ...

Portman burial

I am trying to find the burial place of my 2x gt grandmother, Sarah Portman (nee Billingham).
Sarah died in 1904, 2nd quarter, in Dudley aged 89.
I have her death certificate but no place of burial.
Most of the Portmans are buried in either St Andrew's Netherton or St Thomas' Dudley but there is no sign of Sarah.
Any help is appreciated.

The Legacy of Robert Hamilton

In 1781, a wealthy Manchester (Lancashire) merchant, Robert Hamilton, died without issue. His wife was Mary Kenworthy.
In his will he left his fortune to her and other family members.
His wife survived him for another 20 years.
Alas, Roberts wishes as to where his wealth was to be distributed was not adhered to, and so this led to a big argument!
In 1840 a group of people who had been denied this inheritance got ...

Chrissie Maclennan

Good evening,

I’m looking for information on a Chrissie Maclennan, born in Stornoway Isle of Lewis in 1935. Her parents were Donald and Christina and her mother died soon after her birth. She was the youngest of 5 children from her father’s first marriage, the others all being boys.

I can find nothing on her other than her birth record. Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Question about Rochdale, Lancs. (Bower/Hibbert)

I am tring to find out what happened to Florence Bower, b. Jun Q 1881, Salford, daughter of George Bower and Ann Hibbert. I have found quite a lot of info on her half sibs and her full siblings but her fate alludes me.
My best conclusion is that she is the Florence Bower who died in Rochdale district in 1923, age 42. However, I have found no connection to Rochdale for my Hibbert lot, ...

A really big 'thank-you' to contributors on this forum!

I simply must post a big 'thank-you' to various contributors to this forum.

Way back in 2014 I posted a long story about part of my family history that I was trying to research - the thread is here: The story of my great-grandfather's other relationship is also highly relevant: ianbee was especially helpful in helping me with breaking through the difficult web of false names, poorly transcribed information and more.

Last year, ...
