Pre WWI Court Marshall

I have an ancestor, Samuel Cressey 1894-1915, who appears to have been Court Martial 8 May 1913, Limerick. He died as a POW in Germany 18 May 1915.

What would he have been doing pre WWI in Limerick and how can I find the reason for his CM?

Joseph Clutterbuck - action man!

Searching for birth records & parents for Joseph Clutterbuck, born c.1804-1811 (1841 census gives age as 30, 1842 burial register gives age as 38).
Joseph was my 3x great grandfather, he lived in Croydon, Surrey in 1841 (listed on 1841 census as not being born in the county) and worked as a policeman. His duties clearly involved working on the railway, which is how he died, in adventurous circumstances, in 1842:

Benjamin Howard Oswald Nicholson death.

Benjamin Howard Oswald Nicholson was born in Great Yarmouth on 2nd January 1887. His father was Benjamin Howard Nicholson 1865-1897 also of Great Yarmouth. Benjamin the son was Christened Benjamin Oswald Nicholson and adopted the Howard into his name in later life.

Robert Kneebone - Who is his mother?

I am helping a work colleague’s mum with her Cornish ancestry and have hit a real brick wall. She knows that her grandfather, Robert Penberthy Kneebone was born in Phillack,Cornwall and that he married Mary Jane Spray.

The Cornwall OPCs lists the marriage of Robert Kneebone and Mary Jane Spray at Phillack parish church on 23 October 1907. Robert’s age is given as 28 years and his father is Richard Kneebone, an engineer.

The Legacy of Robert Hamilton

In 1781, a wealthy Manchester (Lancashire) merchant, Robert Hamilton, died without issue. His wife was Mary Kenworthy.
In his will he left his fortune to her and other family members.
His wife survived him for another 20 years.

Old terminology

Hi, in some of the older censuses I have encountered terms which I have been unable to identify elsewhere so would be glad of any assistance:

"Hand-daughter"-this was used in a census to describe the relationship of the head of household to certain female members (who do not bear his surname)-does it indicate a familial connection or is it more a term to describe, say, a working role within it, e.g.as a servant?
