Does anyone understand why when I tick the box for name variants for the name Ashby on Find My Past I only get listings for Ashby and not the usual variations such as Ashbee? Or vice versa?

Missing Birth Families

Can anyone offer suggestions for pushing a family line in the 1700s when a baptism and any suggestion of a birth family is missing please?

The first mention of Daniel Green is at his marriage in 1768 in Haversham, Bucks. He is recorded as from the neighbouring parish of Little Linford. Shortly after the marriage he baptises the first of several children in nearby Milton Keynes Village where he stays until death in 1783.

James McGuire - 1833 - Ireland and Rachel Morgan

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to trace two people, James McGuire (1833 Ireland) and Rachel Morgan (1835 - Ireland). I have records of their marriage in Temple, Midlothian, Scotland in 1857. From that record I can establish that James McGuire’s parents are Thomas and Mary McGuire (both deceased) and Rachel’s parents are John Morgan and Anne Jones.

I want to trace them back in Ireland. I have searched ...

DNA How to identify common ancestor?

After DNA testing on Ancestry, 2nd, 3rd, 4th cousins have been matched to me. Who or what generation is the common ancestor? If it is a second cousin do we share a Grandfather? Just don't know how the cousin relationship works because I thought that some ancestors would be Uncles or Aunts. Have read the explanation on Ancestry regarding relationships but I am no wiser!

Help please and thank you in anticipation for bothering to ...

My father is listed on his marriage and death certificates as Hart (formerly) Honest. His birth certificate is Honest. Someone in adoption records office told me this means that he was commonly known as Hart but was not adopted and did not legally change his name. Has anyone come across this before? The children were born and registered as Hart. Does that mean that legally they are Honest? Really confused.

Ordering Irish birth certificate

Hi guys,

Please forgive me for hijacking the forum, but I've come across a gap in my genealogy knowledge that I'd love to have your help with! I'm helping a family friend with his family history research and I've found a potential match for the ancestor he's looking for - Henry Edward Carroll, born 17 (?) January 1893 in Swineford. I've attached the birth record I found on Irish Genealogy. I tried ordering the birth ...

Elizabeth Driffield married Charles Duncannon 17 October 1825 at St Sampsons in York. I am trying to find her parents and it seems to be a choice of:

2. Elizabeth, born , Raskelf, Yorks, 24 March 1806 - father William Driffield.
