Verquier family history

Hello everyone

I am on the hunt for information of my GG Grandmother Louise (Louisa) Verquier from France.

Her father's name was possibly Jean Pierre Verquier. Louisa was born in France around 1820. My GG Grandfather was Isaac Marsh. He was a lace maker/manager? from England and was working in France and had to return to England because of the French revolution. This would have been around 1844-1848. Louisa left France and traveled to England ...

Enumerators notes 1871 census

I have found Henry Bowen in the Royal Artillery based at Woolwich in the 1871 census, it states that he was born in New Brunswick which Find my Past has transcribed as Canada but in the last column the enumerator has written USBS. I think this might mean born in the US but a British subject as it couldn't be an illness. Can anybody confirm this or not as the case may be please, thanks.

Missing birth

Hi all
I am trying to find the birth of my 2nd great grandfather George Alcock b1851. On the census I have it says he was born in Bradford but I can't locate a BC for him there and even the GRO returned my request. His mum Sarah Ann Alcock shows Ireland as her birthplace in the census too but I don't know if that her married name or not.
I have been looking a ...

Recusant Records.

I have traced one of my Maternal lines, the MOLESWORTHs, to the rural Warwickshire-Worcestershire borders around Coughton, Sambourne and Alcester. This whole area, but Coughton in particular, was fairly notorious for ‘Papism’ and Recusancy, a term used in England after c1570 for those who continued to follow the Catholic faith. The THROCKMORTON family who owned Coughton Court, had been associated with the Gunpowder Plot.

My 7 x Great Grandfather, John MOLESWORTH, was the Miller in ...

Missing Wandsworth Electoral Roll 1939

Does anyone know a source for the Wandsworth Electoral Roll 1939/40? It is not on Ancestry as Ancestry's source, the London Metropolitan Archives, doesn't have a copy. The National Archives collection begins in 1947, so that's no help. I need to check the Battersea and Streatham wards.

Mary (Maisie) Gantley

Good morning,

Please can anyone help me.

My great grandmother, whose name was Mary (known as Maisie) Gantley, married my great grandfather, William John Harrison in 1885, in Manchester.

On the marriage certificate she is shown as widowed but her fathers name is shown as John Gantley.

The family story is that she came to England after her first husband, a fisherman, drowned in Ireland (Galway we believe).

My problem is that I don't know ...
