Just before the war they changed the way their surname was spelt. Cannot find my 4th great grandfather's death record

Hi all

I am looking for another member of my Baldwin ancestors.

Benjamin Baldwin was born in around 1807 in Brockdish, Norfolk to his parents John and Catherine (or Catharine).

He married Ann Crisp and had several children (Samuel b1842, Robert b1844, John b1846 and William b1847), moving his family to Lewisham/Lee in Kent between the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

I can last find trace of him on the 1861 census in Lewisham but he ...

Ellen HAW (nee Bowes)

Can anyone help me solve a mystery?

Ellen was born about 1856, Richmond, & she was married to Thomas Haw, born 1857, Arkendale.
They lived in Harrogate.
The earliest census I can find her on is 1871, but unfortunately I can find no trace of her on the 1861 census, or any record of her birth.

If any one can help me fill in the gaps that would be much appreciated.

Sent from my ...

Captain Thomas Poulton

I am trying to find out more about the family of Thomas Poulton who was one time governor of Nottingham Castle in the 1600's and cousin to Colonel Hutchinson. I have tracked down burial records for 3 of his children but I'm trying to find out if he had any sons, who they were and who their children were as I'm trying to match my Poulton branch of the family to him.

Any suggestions/thoughts as ...

Wife in the workhouse husband outside.

I have come across a strange situation in a branch of my family tree.

I have found my 2x g grandfather, Samuel Bayliss b 1841 in Birmingham. He married Catherine Austin b 1847 in Wicklow, Ireland, on the 8th July 1865. All well and good. I then have them both on the 1871 and 1881 census. This is where it gets a little strange. In 1881 they are living in Clapham with their children Joseph, ...

Money paid to Wed in 1763

Recently I found a reference to my 4xgrt grandparents marriage , on ancestry. As part of the text it says they had to pay "two hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain", this seems rather a lot of money to have to pay to the Rev. of the church in 1763.
My 4x grt Grandfather was a Yeoman in Cumberland.
Was this the normal fee for that period of time? The church ...

Augusta Tolman born 1807

Augusta was married (I assume) to my 3xgt grandfather John Burgess. She appears on the birth certificates of all the children of John. She is shown as Augusta Burgess on every census from 1841 to 1881. She died in 1887 aged 80.
Tolman is relatively uncommon but I have been unable to trace any record of Augusta's birth - variously listed as London and Middlesex nor can I trace any record of the marriage which ...
