Birth Certificate date

I've just received my grandmother Hannah's birth certificate, and am having problems reading the date, which is either 31st or 21st August 1874. I can read the rest of the entry - Kintbury, Berks, but the date is unclear. Many thanks.

And I have found another query on the same certificate in the wording of Hannah's mother. It says: "Maria Culley, previously Andrews, formerly Lewis". Which was a surprise, ...

Birth/Baptism Record - probably London area

I'm trying to find any records relating to the birth/baptism of Richard WASTIE.

Richard married Catherine WISEMAN at St. George's, Bloomsbury, on 01 SEP 1795 (both otp) and the witnesses were both WISEMANs. They had four children between 1796 and 1802 - all baptised at the Providence Chapel, Tichfield Street in Marylebone (I believe that the Providence Chapel was non-conformist).

Richard worked as a butcher in Walworth, Surrey, and in the 1841 census he is ...

Martha Solomons

I am trying to research my wife's family and almost immediately hit a brick wall and need some advice where to go.

My mother-in-law Sadie Sylvia Solomons was taken into care immediately after birth and her name was changed but I can trace the "adopted" family OK. The birth took place in Bancroft Lodge (Mile End Workhouse) in 1921 and the mother is listed as Martha Solomons of 2 Rutland Street Mile End Old Town. ...

1780 Dictionary

I'd like some guidance as to the best way to track the history of this dictionary which has been handed down in my family for generations since the 1780s.
The book "The New Spelling Dictionary, Teaching To Write and Pronounce the ENGLISH Tongue with Eafe and Propriety." London. Printed for Charles Dilly, in the Poultry, 1780.
Its in fairly good condition for its age. Its fascinated me for years as the small 's' is written ...

St Leger Family Galway and Mayo

I am researching the St Leger family in Mayo and Galway. I have traced Walter St Leger to Hollymount, Kilcommon in 1818. He had a son called Edmond St Leger ( aka Edward Sellenger) who served in HMS Ajax at Trafalgar. Walter's widow was Eliza Bodkin who died in Galway in1824. In her will she leaves money to her daughter and four sons, including my ancestor, her youngest son Nicholas.
This money comes from a ...

Who is Oughtry Hall?

James Galloway and Peggy (Margaret) Hall married on 28 Oct 1853 in Antrim, Northern Ireland. They were both born around 1831 to 1836.

Peggy's father is recorded as Oughtry Hall. The "O" at the start of Oughtry was written in the same way as "O" at the start of "Oct" where the date was recorded.

Searching his name on Ancestry.co.uk and findmypast.ie fails to bring back any results. Same when Googling "Oughtry Hall" (with the ...

Robson Family, Bancory Ternan

I discovered this weekend (after attending a WDYTYA event in Birmingham) that my great, great grandmother - Isabella Robson was born in a place called Banchory Devenick in 1855. Her father was John Robson, a Gardener (born apprx 1817, Morayshire) and her mother was Margaret MacDonald (born apprx 1822, Inverness). I was also excited to learn that her parents married in a small village called Oyne, Aberdeenshire in 1848.
