Actress Sunetra Sarker is perhaps best known her for roles in hospital dramas No Angels and Casualty.

However, Sunetra first gained loyal fans back in the 1980s thanks to her stint in Scouse soap Brookside, who will no doubt be watching as she explores her roots in Who Do You Think You Are? on Wednesday 22 February.

Before you tune in, here's five things you might not have known about the Liverpool-born star:

1. Emergency exit

Sunetra played Dr Zoe Hanna on Casualty from 2007 until her shock exit in May 2016. As one of the best-loved characters on the show, viewers were stunned as she exited the show in true soap opera fashion: in the back of a taxi.

2. Night nurse

Many viewers will also know Sunetra for her role in the acclaimed medical series, No Angels. Running from 2004 to 2006, Sunetra was perfectly cast as the fun-loving (and man-eating) healthcare assistant Anji. The show was filmed at the disused High Royds Hospital, a former mental health institution.

3. Fab-u-lous efficiency

In 2014, Sunetra put on her dancin’ shoes for Strictly. To cope with the gruelling schedule, she relied on plenty of ice packs and “Himalaya salts in the bath”. At one point, due to her acting commitments, Sunetra had to memorise her American Smooth routine in just one day.

4. Dancing genes

Sunetra’s aptitude for dancing may actually be genetic. Back in 2013, Sunetra’s mother – Bisakha – was awarded an MBE for her services for teaching Indian classical dance. Sarker herself gained a degree in Information Systems for Business in Europe from Brunel University in London.

5. Keeping Bristol green

Sunetra lives in Bristol with her boyfriend from university. The two of them, in keeping with the city’s green ethos, have started an eco-friendly food company called Keep Me Fresh.
